Caterpillars Show the Way to a New Understanding of Social Insects Alvin Powell Biologists have long been impressed by the social characteristics of ants, bees, termites, and wasps, says Radcliffe fellow James T. Costa, while they've ignored the social behavior of such insects as caterpillars and sawflies. Costa is studying “the other insect societies” to expand our understanding of sociality.
