This event is free and open to the public.

The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study will convene a wide-ranging, international group of experts representing academia, nongovernmental organizations, and the military to explore the nature and dynamics of several important but often forgotten wars in the mid- to late-twentieth century. The focus of this multidisciplinary conference will be on the nature and dynamics of these wars and their impact on civilian and combatant populations, as well as on the political development of the postcolonial state. This public conference will present the results of a series of private deliberations by high-level experts that have been held at Radcliffe during the past two years and have focused on Algeria, Angola/Mozambique, and Vietnam; Kenya, Malaya, and Sri Lanka; and Congo, Rwanda/Burundi, and Zimbabwe.
