I need a research partner for two projects: a manuscript of poems and a new project in nonfiction. The research partner would be expected to find early maps of the American West—Montana, Eastern California, and Nevada—that the poems seek to navigate and to help make reproductions of those maps for study and use. Additionally, I would ask the research partner to help find materials in neuroscience and help network with those working at Harvard's neuroscience department.
This would be a good job for an undergraduate in the creative arts or humanities interested in strengthening his or her research skills, and for a "people" person who is interested in helping me make contacts in the neuroscience department and at the medical school. Although both tasks are research oriented, I would love to work with someone with good visual skills and/or someone with some wilderness/backpacking training or interest, who could help me imagine what the early mapmakers could and could not see. Mostly, I believe this job would suit a writer interested in seeing how research materials can be involved in creative work. I look forward to mentoring an undergraduate!
