Violence Against Women in South Asia

I am exploring violence and women in the sociocultural context of the Muslim world, particularly in South Asia. The exploitation and violence against women have intricate roots in culture and religion; political Islam and tribal customary practices merge to become an exploitative tool for violence against women and at times by women. There is also a complex and contrived relationship between Islamic Legal Law and political Islam. I want to explore how this has further subjugated women and make a comparative study of the evolution of women’s roles in policy and legislative reforms in the West.
Exploring reformative measures on the policy on violence against women will help me understand the procedures and frameworks of the evolution of this policy and the shift in ideologies and developmental reforms to counter violence against women. This will also give me an insight into the social transformation and the consequential legislative measures that resulted in curbing violence. This research will be effective in making comparative studies of both cultures and building recommendations that proved effectual and stood the test of time.
The junior research partner will gather specified material, search references, and locate specialized texts. The student must have advanced Arabic reading skills. Experience with collecting and researching data would be beneficial but is not required. A basic understanding of human rights and the ability to review and develop synopses will be helpful. The research partner will be a great help in collecting hard-to-find materials for my research. The research partner will also gain experience into the process of researching and writing a comparative study.
